The BMI Story

BMI (Bridgestone, Moxham & Intertraco) was founded in 2007 by Simon Moxham with the intention of growing a nationwide network of franchised hydraulic service centres.

Simon was previously the European Commercial Director and Finance Director of Pirtek Europe, and saw that Pirtek UK enjoyed a near monopoly on the on-site emergency market, which left national customers with little real choice.

The ownership of Pirtek had changed in 1996 to private equity to fund expansion into Europe, and the business then had a secondary private equity purchase. It was his view that this led to an emphasis on the cash generation and profitability of the franchisor, possibly to the detriment of the quality of product and franchisee profitability.

This created the opportunity for BMI to offer an alternative in the UK, putting the needs of customers and franchisees first.

BMI prides itself on its brand values:

  • Quality
  • Convenience
  • Service
  • Consistency
  • Value

We believe that a customer should have a choice, a high quality product, and good value.

Our business is owned and run by people, rather than bankers or other types of financier. The business is funded entirely by its shareholders and so has no debts.

Our history:

  • In August 2007 the home of BMI was purchased. This was a newly built, high specification 23,500 square foot warehouse and offices, with good motorway links, in a good labour catchment area.
  • In November 2007 our pilot Service Centre opened in Dudley.
  • In February 2008 our Newcastle upon Tyne Service Centre opened its doors.
  • In April 2008 our BMI Reading Service Centre opened its doors.
  • In August 2008 our BMI Bristol Service Centre opened its doors.
